Today, I'd like to make a wish for next year: PEACE.
I'm tired of war, I'm sick of seeing violence everywhere.
That's why I want to post a little part of the letter that Rigoberta Menchú (picture) wrote to G.W. Bush, after his speech to the Congress.
"At the beginning of this year, I invited the men and women of the planet to adopt a Code of Ethics for a Millennium of Peace sustaining that:
There will be no Peace if there is no Justice
There will be no Justice if there is no Equity
There will be no Equity if there is no Progress
There will be no Progress if there is no Democracy
There will be no Democracy if there is no respect for the Identity and Dignity of the Peoples and Cultures
In today's world, all these values and practices are scarce; nevertheless, the unequal manner in which they are distributed does nothing but generate impotence, hopelessness and hatred.

Before you cry "fire", I would like to invite you to consider a different kind of world leadership, one in which it is necessary to convince rather than to defeat; in which humanity is able to demonstrate that in the last thousand years we have surpassed the meaning of "an eye for an eye" which justice had for the barbarians who sank humanity into medieval obscurantism; and that there is no need for new crusades in order to learn to respect those who have a different conception of God and the work of His creation; in which we would share in solidarity the fruits of progress, taking better care of the resources still remaining in the planet and that no child lack bread and a school.

Hoy me gustaría pedir un deseo para el año que viene: PAZ.
Estoy cansada de la guerra y de ver violencia por todas partes.
Por eso decidí poner acá una partecita de la carta que Rigoberta Menchú (foto) le envió a G.W. Bush, después de su discurso en el Congreso.
"Al empezar este año, invité a los hombres y mujeres del planeta a compartir un Código de Ética para un Milenio de Paz reclamando que:
No habrá Paz si no hay Justicia
No habrá Justicia si no hay Equidad
No habrá Equidad si no hay Desarrollo
No habrá Desarrollo si no hay Democracia
No habrá Democracia si no hay respeto por la Identidad y la Dignidad de los Pueblos y las Culturas
En el mundo de hoy, todos estos son valores y prácticas muy escasas, sin embargo, la desigual manera en que están distribuidos no hace más que alimentar la impotencia, la desesperanza y el odio.
Antes de que dé Ud. la voz de "fuego", me gustaría invitarlo a pensar en un liderazgo mundial diferente, en el que no necesite vencer sino convencer; en el que la especie humana pueda demostrar que en los últimos mil años hemos superado el sentido de "ojo por ojo" que tenía la justicia para los bárbaros que sumieron a la humanidad en el oscurantismo medieval; en el que no hagan falta nuevas cruzadas para aprender a respetar a quienes tienen una idea distinta de Dios y la obra de su creación; en el que compartamos solidariamente los frutos del progreso, cuidemos mejor los recursos que aún quedan en el planeta y a ningún niño le falte un pan y una escuela.
